I am a lover of traditions, of the culture that is passed on from parents to children, of education, of slow life and mutual respect. Curious to know and learn about those and what I photograph. In my education I have been taught that the first thing you should do when you arrive in a new or unknown place is to introduce yourself and explain what has brought you there. Well, I´ll introduce myself.
My name is Vicente Fraga and I am Galician. I was born in 1978 in a small village in the interior of the province of Pontevedra, Spain, from which I left at the age of 18 in pursuit of what is known as the search for a better future. I studied technical architecture and building engineering and my work led me to spend more than 20 years, to a greater or lesser extent, away from these roots. It is now exactly one year since I took the decision to stop, to start thinking about myself, to stop travelling constantly and to dedicate my life exclusively to work.
In the last few years, things have happened to me that have brought about a profound change. I have had two children, I have seen my mother die and I have taken the happy and important decision to recover my passion for photography to which I dedicate more and more of the most valuable thing we all have, time.
Beyond an artistic purpose, I am driven by a curiosity that I try to turn into a process of personal growth as a result of research and work on those subjects that interest, affect or concern me. I combine specific commissions ranging from social to architectural photography, which I accompany with the development of long-term projects within a documentary approach.
I will talk about the development of these long-term projects, my experiences and my work process in this weekly newsletter to which you can subscribe by clicking on the following link.
This is Vicente Fraga’s Long Road Diary.
